The hybrid event “Supporting EPBD implementation: Practical solutions developed by EU-funded initiatives”, organised by the European Commission and the LIFE Programme, has now officially concluded after a full day of exchanges in Brussels and online.
Held at the Charlemagne Building of the European Commission, the event gathered policymakers, technical experts, public authorities, researchers and EU-funded initiatives working on the implementation of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) across Europe.
As EU Member States move from transposition to implementation, the discussions focused on one key question: how can practical tools, reliable data and collaborative approaches help transform policy ambitions into concrete results on the ground?
Throughout the different sessions, participants explored a wide range of topics linked to building renovation, energy efficiency and digitalisation in the building sector. Discussions highlighted the growing importance of interoperable data systems, building stock monitoring, energy performance certificates, renovation planning tools and evidence-based policymaking.
The event also showcased how EU-funded projects are already developing practical solutions to support public authorities, market actors and decision-makers in implementing the EPBD more effectively. From policy support activities to technical platforms and data-driven methodologies, the presentations demonstrated the diversity of approaches currently being deployed across Europe.
OBSERVE contributed to the exchanges by highlighting the role of National Building Stock Observatories (nBSOs) in supporting informed decision-making and long-term renovation strategies. Reliable and accessible building stock data remains essential to monitor progress, identify priorities and support the transition toward a more energy-efficient and decarbonised building sector.
Beyond the presentations themselves, the event created valuable opportunities for dialogue and collaboration between European institutions, national authorities and EU-funded initiatives. The exchanges throughout the day reflected a shared objective: ensuring that the implementation of the EPBD is supported by concrete, scalable and actionable solutions.
