Smart Readiness Indicator 4th joint event : policy support, tools, and national progress.

This week, the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) community gathered in Brussels and online for the 4th Jjoint SRI event, co-organised by the European Commission, CINEA, and LIFE projects including IEECP and SRI2MARKET.

The day opened with a welcome coffee and registration, followed by opening remarks and an overview of the policy context from the European Commission. Participants learned how LIFE projects are supporting SRI implementation across Europe.

Next, sessions focused on national test phase experiences, with project partners sharing insights from countries including Spain, Austria, Portugal, Croatia, Italy, and Cyprus. Speakers highlighted lessons learned, challenges encountered, and best practices that can inform future SRI roll-outs.

After a coffee break and LIFE projects exhibition, the discussions moved to costs and benefits of SRI for buildings, energy systems, and competitiveness. This was complemented by sessions on auditing schemes, integrated SRI solutions, and EPC alignment, showcasing how projects are delivering practical tools to support SRI audits and assessments.

In the afternoon, panels explored transitioning to a coordinated SRI scheme and integrating SRI with other building performance assessments, fostering exchanges between policymakers, industry experts, and research partners. The day concluded with a networking cocktail, giving participants the chance to connect, share ideas, and strengthen collaborations across the SRI ecosystem.

A warm thank you to the organizers of the 4th Joint SRI Event ; the European Commission (DG ENER) and CINEA, for making this event possible and bringing together key stakeholders from across Europe.

We also thank all speakers, participants, and LIFE projects for their invaluable contributions, including easySRI, Smart Square Project, SRI2MARKET CYPRUS & GREECE, tunES, and partners like IEECP, SRI2MARKET, and many others. Their expertise and engagement are essential to advancing smarter, energy-efficient buildings and fostering collaboration across the SRI ecosystem.

The OBSERVE Project Reaches a New Milestone : Key Contributions from the TEESlab Team (UPRC)

Deliverables submitted, in-depth diagnostics, technical architecture, the OBSERVE project is moving forward on several fronts simultaneously. Major Deliverables Submitted The TEESlab team at the University of Piraeus (UPRC) has been actively contributing to the OBSERVE project, with the submission of Deliverables D2.1, D2.2 and D3.2, alongside a contribution to Deliverable D3.1. This work builds on an extensive mobilisation effort: stakeholder interviews and focus groups, an EU-wide online survey, national policy analysis, and data mapping carried out across six countries: Croatia,

Integrating Energy Performance and Smart Readiness Indicator: Insights from assessors

SmarterEPC surveyed 25 building performance assessors to test the integration of Energy Performance Certificates with Smart Readiness Indicator assessments. The SmarterEPC methodology promises to streamline building audits under the revised EPBD, but assessors emphasise the need for clearer criteria, practical training, and digital tools to ensure successful implementation across Europe. Read what we found out.

The state of the EPCs in Italy: progress and challenges

The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), introduced in Italy in 2005 with the 2002 EPBD Directive, is a fundamental tool for building management for owners, operators, and institutions alike. Aside from the benefits, what is the current state of EPCs in Italy? Every year, ENEA publishes a report on EPCs to analyze the state of the art of this certification, which is still not fully exploited in all its potential.
