Cécile Barrére from R2M Solution France, coordinators of the SmarterEPC project, represented SmarterEPC at this pivotal networking event in Brussels last May.
CINEA, the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency, organised this Cluster and the meeting to provide a living platform to all actors with lessons learned, the state of the art on several topics, to formulate recommendations, and strengthen the community of beneficiaries daily involved in projects funded by Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and LIFE.
Out of this two-day event, SmarterEPC had the chance to be confronted with other projects working on the decarbonization of the building sector by improving energy efficiency, and renewable energy. It was also an opportunity to get updates on the advancement of the building rating instruments (methodologies, schemes and tools) for energy performance and smartness of buildings, in line with the recently adopted EU Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) IV.
The meeting covered all the possible relevant topics in the field: energy performance certificates, deep renovation, and smart buildings and services. More than 50 participants representing 46 projects engaged in presentations, brainstorming and debates on those topics.
Cécile Barrére for SmarterEPC
Cécile Barrére presented SmarterEPC, its scopes, and a selection of key objectives and ambitions. Her talk highlighted the goal of SmarterEPC to support EU and national policies towards the adoption of innovative EPC and SRI schemes by delivering an online Hub where a list of innovative tools for EPC and SRI can be accessed by professional assessors.
In addition, Cécile dive deeper on how SmarterEPC intends to advance on developing a unified EPC & SRI onsite audits, working with CEN/CENELEC (“Standardized On-site SRI Building Audits: Framework Development Workshop”), raising the attention by the audience of the session.
Together with other EU projects belonging to the NextGen EPC Cluster and SRI Cluster, the progress on advancing in the innovative versions of these rating schemes and making the link with existing policies and plans in the EU Countries was provided.
Each project has a pathway forward to put these schemes at the centre of renovation actions to improve the energy performance and smartness of the building stock at EU level. There was the chance to explore common ground across projects to identify collaboration opportunities shortly.
