On 11 June, the Instituto de Ciencias de la Construcción Eduardo Torroja, IETcc-CSIC, hosted the Torroja Seminar entitled “Climate and energy efficiency in the built environment: the European i4c and OBSERVE projects” in Madrid.
The event brought together experts working at the intersection of buildings, climate and data to discuss how better access to reliable information can support the energy transition of the European building stock.
During the seminar, Rafael Villar, Marta Sorribes and Daniel Jiménez, members of the IETcc-CSIC Building Energy Team, presented the objectives and latest progress of the LIFE OBSERVE project.
OBSERVE aims to support national authorities in developing more structured and interoperable processes for collecting, managing and reporting data related to the energy performance of buildings. This work contributes to the establishment and improvement of National Building Stock Observatories, while facilitating the exchange of information with the EU Building Stock Observatory.
These activities are particularly important in the context of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which reinforces the need for accurate, accessible and comparable building data to guide renovation strategies and energy-efficiency policies across Europe.
The seminar also featured the European i4c project, which brings together specialists in climate science, urban planning and social sciences. The project seeks to improve the quality and accessibility of climate information for cities and regions, helping local stakeholders make better-informed decisions.
The event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and highlight how robust data, effective governance and cooperation between European initiatives can contribute to the renovation and decarbonisation of the built environment.
