As part of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2026, a high-level session will take place on 11 June, from 14:00 to 15:30, at the Charlemagne Building, Jenkins Room.
The session will focus on energy efficiency in buildings, local heating and cooling planning, and the role of building-level data in accelerating building decarbonisation.
Supporting the implementation of the EPBD and EED
The discussion will explore how digitalisation and better use of data in the heating and cooling sector can support the effective implementation of two major European policy frameworks: the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).
As Europe moves towards a cleaner and more efficient energy system, reliable data is becoming essential to support local authorities, policymakers and stakeholders in designing practical and evidence-based solutions.
One of the key challenges addressed during the session will be the need to move from fragmented data to actionable insights. Building-level data can play an important role in improving local energy planning, especially when it comes to heating and cooling needs, renovation strategies and decarbonisation pathways.
By bringing together experts and stakeholders, the session will provide an opportunity to discuss practical approaches to data use, interoperability and digitalisation in support of local heating and cooling plans.
