OBSERVE General Assembly in Brussels: Turning Project Results into Impact

With one year remaining before the end of the OBSERVE project, partners came together in Brussels on Monday for a General Assembly focused on the next phase of the project and, importantly, on how its results can create lasting value beyond the project itself.

Hosted by the EPB Center and the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP), the meeting brought together partners for an intense exchange on the progress achieved so far and the work still ahead.

A turning point for OBSERVE

As OBSERVE enters the final year of implementation, the discussions marked an important turning point for the project.

A central focus of the meeting was how to effectively transfer and communicate OBSERVE’s results to EU Member States. The project is working to support Member States in establishing national building stock observatories that can provide reliable, accessible and more consistent building data in line with the requirements of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

This means that the work carried out within the project now needs to translate into practical knowledge, methodologies and recommendations that can be understood and used by national stakeholders.

From project results to national implementation

The General Assembly provided an opportunity for partners to look closely at the results developed so far and discuss how they can be further communicated, shared and taken up by Member States.

With OBSERVE supporting six pilot countries, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy and Spain, this next phase is particularly important for connecting the project’s work with national building data ecosystems and the wider European context.

The discussions also reinforced the importance of collaboration across the OBSERVE consortium. Bringing together expertise from research organisations, energy and building-data specialists and project partners is essential to ensure that the project’s outputs respond to real national needs.

Looking ahead

The final year of OBSERVE will therefore be about more than completing project activities. It will be about making the project’s results accessible, useful and transferable.

As the project moves towards its final stage, partners will continue working on how OBSERVE’s knowledge and results can support better building-stock data and contribute to stronger national Building Stock Observatories across Europe.

And Brussels certainly provided the right setting for these discussions, with a little October sunshine along the way. ☀️🇪🇺

A big thank you to EPB Center and IEECP for hosting the OBSERVE consortium.

Skills2Decarb: Soft Skills to Drive the Twin Transition

Decarbonisation, the circular economy, and digitalisation represent the most pressing challenges for construction professionals today. The green and digital twin transition has exposed a significant skills gap that affects both those who design and build, and those who provide training. This gap is not merely technical: there is a critical need for the ability to observe challenges from diverse perspectives, collaborate effectively across the value chain, and make decisions under uncertainty. In Skills2Decarb, we address this need through a comprehensive

Shape the Future of Building Data in Europe: OBSERVE Stakeholder Survey

Reliable and harmonised building data are essential for understanding Europe’s building stock, supporting energy efficiency, and informing the transition towards more sustainable buildings. Through the OBSERVE EU project, stakeholders are invited to contribute their perspectives on building data availability, needs and challenges. Supporting National Building Stock Observatories The survey will help support the development of national Building Stock Observatories (nBSOs) in six EU Member States: 🇨🇾 Cyprus🇪🇸 Spain🇫🇷 France🇬🇷 Greece🇭🇷 Croatia🇮🇹 Italy The aim is to ensure that these observatories
